Time Apart ch 2 - angsty cuphead

All the participants were informed there was a rest stop on the fifth floor, so they would have to power through it. At this rate, it was definitely a smooth sailing but he knew it wouldn't stay this easy. He was also looking forward to meeting some new people, since the welcome room had them separate but the rest stops would have them in a shared space. In the meantime, he was just as well taking out his anger and frustrations on these bullet beasts!
He was very grateful to reach the fifth level. He stumbled his way into a very nice living room setup which also had a lot of books like a library. Cuphead realized he could only throw so many tables before his arms finally got tired. He sat at a table and ordered some food and soda. He took off his hat and took some deep breaths, then opened his save and achievements book and started counting his loot. A brown skin woman with long black twist braids came in and sat in the chair on the other side of the room. She did the same thing and finally looked over to him. My name is Sheila, she finally said and he looked over to her and waved. My name is cu-umm- Kane. It felt weird to give some of the different name, but it dawned on him that he can be anyone he wants now that he's out of inkwell. Kane was a good start.
Nice to meet you! Is this your first time in the dungeon? Yeah... You? No, this is my third time here! Oh, okay. I don't really know what to say to that. I guess one way to put it is that you get used to it. Their food came out of the bottoms of the table that they ordered it from. Oh my! How convenient! Cuphead said before they both started wolfing down their orders. Cuphead didn't even realize he was so hungry! The food smelled and tasted wonderful. Cuphead had a burger and fries with a cherry soda, and Sheila had marinated lemon salmon with a caesar salad a glass of water and a glass of wine. More people came in while they were eating, and cuphead overheard their conversations. No one knew him, and it was nice to not be judged. "I'm so glad I signed up for a hundred levels!" He thought as he ate.
After the first week, things went back to normal in inkwell, for the most part. The only one who hadn't recovered was mugman, but that was to be expected. Elder Kettle passed a few months ago, and now his brother was treated as though he was dead even though people trusted that he was still alive. Wait... "You'll see in a few months." Mugman jumped out of bed and started texting hilda, sally, and the baroness. "I just remembered something! Lola said that we would see in a few months. Do any of you know what that means? He put in the group text. "Yeah, the gungeon is a TV show. We'll see cuphead on TV in a few months," Sally replied. "I think they stream it now, too," the baroness put in the chat.
Mugman forwarded the messages to the devil and King dice. A few seconds later, milkman hurting noise storming down the hall and the devil bursted into his chambers. Are they for real! For real! My brother is going to be on tv! Mugman cheered what was immediately tired from lack of movement over the past few days. Devil went over and kissed him and they hugged. Mugman got up and got cleaned and and ready for the day. His boyfriend smiled brightly and went back to work. The blue mug ordered the lower demons to change the bedding and wash the sheets, before heading to the casino. He put on his favorite glittery bow tie and blue suspenders with blue shorts and a white shirt and black boots. King dice brightened up when he turned around to see The shining clean lug on the casino floor.
He walked over to diets and they gave each other a light hug. He didn't see the devil in his chair, so he went and sat in it. Even though he had grown, he was still quite small, because the devil changed his form just in that chair to be so big. Dice put on a genuine smile before turning back to the staff and the customers to get everything situated.
Kane was down to the 50th level or up to the 50th level... Dungeons are supposed to be underground but this was a dungeon and it was like a castle. He approach the level more cautiously than before. The cut across his face became more apparent in the light, before he opened the door. "Another Epsom salt bath at the next rest stop, for sure," he groaned.
Days turned into weeks, and weeks turned into months. On her word, enter the gungeon season 5 was streaming, and there was a huge watch party for episode one at the casino. Smoke man was excited to see his brother on tv, and so when was everyone else. King dice smirked and crossed his arms as he thought "I'd never thought I'd see that little brat on television." The place was packed and people started to quiet down as they dim the lights as the ads and did and the theme song to the show started playing.
Over the course of the song, there were glamor shots of the jungle, a few of the participants, and the gungeon itself. Then the intro went to the park with all the participants with their names, and cuphead came up as cuphead/kane and people were immediately confused. The devil became slightly uneasy at taking the good guess that cuphead started going by a different name.
A woman came on the screen after the intro that looked a lot like Lola that explained the rules and what the viewers were about to see. They were going to see the participants that only took on 10 rooms in the dungeon first because that was the shortest part. Then the people that took on 50 rooms, and then the people that took on 100 rooms, and cuphead was on the screen again to signify that he was one of the 100 round people. The crowd wasn't disappointment that they wouldn't see cuphead but they stayed for the first episode, anyway. A lot of people were happy cuphead was okay, in general.
Love man over heard Cala Maria say I wonder how cut Pettis doing to someone else and walked over. I'm sorry to interrupt, but what do you mean? Well, the show airing means that it's done filming. That means cuphead is somewhere else now. Smug man immediately knew that cuphead was coming home he would have been back by now. If only there were a way to find him. Is that who I think it is?! Sally yelled a few feet away from them. Cala Maria and mugman walked over to her and looked at her phone as she held it out for them to see. It was cuphead! Cuphead, going by Kane now, was in a dance video on social media. I- I have to figure out where that is! The devil overheard them and rushed over. What's going on? Cuphead's dancing online! Oh, so we can find him now! If you didn't come home on his own, maybe he found a new home. Sally couldn't and they looked at her as though she just started speaking some crazy language. Maybe you should leave him alone call Maria suggested.
No way! I can't let things in the way they did! Mugman explained. What happened? A lot happened, but the straw that broke the camel's back is that I had sex with someone cuphead likes. I know I know that makes me really shitty but I got to fix this! You had sex with somebody your brother likes? Wait who does he like? I can't disclose that information. Understood. Well, if they weren't in a relationship there's nothing wrong with it. It's on cuphead to be forward about this feelings. Cane. What? He goes by cane now. I don't think he wants to be cuphead anymore. Which is why I'm saying leave him alone. She rolled her eyes and looked at mugman. You do whatever you think is right Mugsy. Mugman looked up from the floor and put on a big grin and hugged her and ran off with the devil and King dice following.
Somewhere in Baswell...
Cuphead was leaned up against a red and black traveler motorcycle eating a taco and drinking a soda. The scar on his face has mostly faded at this point. He had taken his prize money and decided to travel across Orleans. It was the largest continent in the world, so he had plenty to see, and document his travels on a blog along the way. He looked at his phone and suddenly thought about calling his old number. Just to see if it was connected, and to see if anyone would answer. But if it was still connected, would most likely be people he didn't want to talk to that would answer. He was back and forth with his therapist about the idea, but was openly to afraid to commit to the idea. He took his meds after he finished his meal, and secured his helmet before hitting the open road.
The trio didn't know exactly where their target was, but they found cuphead's blog and hopped on a plane to the nearest major city they could think of where he might be. The previous blog post of where he previously was, and they doubted he was still there, so they went to the next major city next to that one. It helped that their targets route was pretty straightforward. They knew they couldn't Chase cuphead around forever, because two of three of them had a casino to run. But Mugman had all the time in the world, and he knew his boyfriend would fund it.
